How to replace a computer mouse? The future is now!

While corporations are creating the future, I will offer a fairly simple “innovative” solution that helps with computer work. All that is needed is to replace the mouse-type manipulator with the pen of a graphic tablet (like the Genius G-560 or Wacom Bamboo One). Please do not confuse graphic tablets with devices such as iPad. A pen tablet is only a device for inputting information into a computer. I will not scare the horror stories about carpal tunnel syndrome from working with the “mouse”. The pen and tablet are simply more comfortable to use, and the hand gets tired much less and gets tired more slowly. Tablets are inexpensive – because you do not need a professional model for drawing. You can even take a used one. Continue reading

Home mini server? Easy and convenient

Many people associate with the word “server” with a large expensive computer installed in a separate room, and with the constantly gloomy system administrator on duty near this farm

Far fewer users know that for a long time there have been home mini-servers on sale, weighing only about 200 grams, without moving parts (which means completely silent), costing $ 100-200. Why is this needed? In fact, the home server is a fully configured and ready-to-work mini-computer that provides users with many useful features. The technology is called NAS (Network Attached Storage), which translates as “network storage”, but the functions of modern devices go far beyond simple file storage. Continue reading

Will computers kill chess as a sport?

The question would seem to be simple, but finding the answer to it is not so simple. Let’s try to figure it out together. For centuries, chess has been a human game, but technology does not stand still. Mankind has long been trying to create an artificial brain in one sense or another of the word. The main task of this work is to teach the brain to think like a person. To do this, you need to come up with a methodology for checking “brain activity”, and according to programmers, chess is the best suited for this. Chess is a sport of the mind. Only the ability to think, think, analyze better (or, alternatively, in a different way) than your opponent does, will allow you to win. The first chess programs were very primitive. They evaluated which move would be the best in this situation, without having a common game strategy. This method of “thinking” usually ran counter to chess theory. On the one hand, a classical chess player familiar with the Continue reading
